Kya J Dubois (she/her/fae)

Kya Dubois is a self-taught intuitive tattooist and visionary fine artist, rooted, growing and co-creating in ʔa·kisk̓aqǂiʔit, the traditional territory of the Ktunaxa peoples (Cranbrook, BC).

Kya spent the first 13 years of her raising in Calgary, AB, where she attended fine arts schools, performing programs and exploring the backstages of theaters. Kya was always surrounded by creative, adventerous and musical spirits who influenced her upbringing and interests. She was allowed full freedom to explore various spiritual beliefs and found mentorship in elder witches her took her under their wings.

Although moving to Cranbrook as a teenager wasn’t eagerly anticipated, she soon found her roots intertwined with the expansive nature this land offered. Kya’s raising, even in the big city, was always centered around nature, so finding a home among the Rocky Mountain landscape proved effortless.

. As an artist, Kya draws connection between the three worlds; this world, the other world and the world between. Through visionary art, Kya aims to express and process the spiritual-human experience and relationship to this world around us. Mythology and folklore having shaped her mind and perception of inter-relational experiences, and much like her ancestors, viewing the world through a mythological lense helps Kya make sense of her experiences and herself. As such, her works have strong ties to both ancient and modern mythological lore and themes.

The inter-connectedness of the collective human experience is the most prevalent muse in Kya’s visionary works. She traces the golden thread that weaves between us all and layers timelines into one. In the belief that we are OF nature and not with-out, Kya finds much medicine and relation with the natural world we share our existence with. The flora and fauna of this planet provides all answers and teachings, Kya believes, and she lives in constant curiosity and honour-ship of this world.

Kya is also an advocate and apprentice of plant-medicine facilitation, self-work, spiritual growth and trauma recovery. While she is not currently offering specific services in these regards (hopefully in the near future!!) Kya does bring this wealth of knowledge and experience to her clients time with her.

Tattooing is one of the oldest and sacred forms of art and expression human-kind has birthed into this world and Kya aims to both honour and bring that sacred back into her practice. Through over a decades of personal work, growth and education, Kya brings a both spiritually-educated and emotionally-informed presence to her clients. This isn’t to say it’s all serious of course! The sacredness of play and joy can be felt in the light-hearted, homey studio.

Kya is committed to offering a safe, inclusive and accessible space that feels warm and welcoming to her clients. She believes that there is a perfect tattooist-client match out there for everyone and hopes her clients will feel empowered to seek such a relationship, whether with her or elsewhere
